My dear friend Marissa over at tinygrants (an amazing project!) and the author of art blog the last place on earth you probably want to be sent me an email when she came across an artist she knew i would just love.
and she was right.
Neil Pardington’s works are beautiful. I remember visiting a museum in Banff as a child and being fascinated with the darkness of their museum – and it was full of dead stuffed animals. There is something both eerie and magical in that type of feeling, and these photographs capture it:

fantastic collections, in this case held by our public collectors….

Wow, I don’t know how I got here but I happy I found your blog. Great stuff. The bottom image reminds me of my first grade class and a collection of specimens in big glass jars. My school had 12 grades, so I think they must have been for a science class. Funny memory!
It also reminds me of the movie “the tin drum” where the little boy screams so loud it breaks glass.
Anyway, I better stop this ramble and just say thanks for the post.
thank you michael, and I am so glad you stumbled upon my blog! Yes, those jarred specimens are strangely nostalgic for many people i think. I notice you are a ceramic artist, i’ll be sure to peruse your blog as well!
cheers!
I love that first picture of the card catalogue!
I keep forgetting to tell you about my collections. I have a big button collection of random buttons I’ve accumulated over my life – places I’ve visited, bands etc. I should take a picture of it sometime to show you.
